SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co outlines the steps to effectively restoring a property after a disaster

10/15/2022 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co outlines the various steps to restore your home or business after a water or fire damage incident.

The property restoration process can be complicated and challenging after a major disaster like water, fire, or storm. It can be pretty hectic from when the disaster happens until the last drywall or roof sheet is nailed in.

That’s why experts advise against undertaking property restoration on your own, as it can mess up a lot of things if not done correctly.

The team at SERVPRO® of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co, a full-service property restoration company in Keller, has outlined the following steps for effective property restoration after a disaster:

1. Verify the stability of the property before entering it

A property restoration specialist will first confirm the stability of the building to ensure the structures are sturdy enough and won’t put the inhabitants in danger. They will carefully access and inspect various parts of the building, looking for signs of structural problems that compromise it.

If you have any doubts, you should wait until an inspector certifies that the place is secure before going inside.

2. Speak to your insurance company

If you have property insurance, then it will likely pay for the restoration. However, you must first inform your insurer about the disaster and gather evidence for your claim. Call your insurance company about the restoration.

Your insurance provider won’t be able to send an adjuster immediately to evaluate the damage, so you’ll need to take pictures or make a video before you proceed with the restoration.

3. Remove valuable items

The expert will typically remove any affected items from the damaged area. They’ll sort through the affected items and throw away those that can’t be restored. Belongings that can be restored will be taken outside or to another room, where they will be cleaned and dried.

Also, it’s essential to remove unaffected items like paintings, so they aren’t damaged during the property restoration process.

4. Start property restoration

The restoration specialist will begin the property restoration once you get the go-ahead from your insurance company.

If the damage were caused by water, the first step would involve removing any standing water on the property. If it’s caused by fire, you’ll have to deal with the smoke and soot after the fire has been put out.

Property restoration professionals have specialized tools like industrial pumps that allow them to remove any water on your property quickly.

5. Dry up the property and belongings

After removing the standing water, the property restoration experts will dry up any remaining water soaked into the wall, floor, or other properties. They’ll use industrial dryers, dehumidifiers, and moisture sensors to find any hidden moisture and dry it to prevent further property damage.

They will also clean and dry affected belongings like your furniture, carpet, and documents.

6. Disinfect, sterilize, and deodorize

After drying, the experts will proceed to disinfect the affected areas to kill any bacteria and make them safer for you and others using the space. They’ll also sterilize the space to prevent mold growth and then deodorize it to eliminate the weird smell from water or fire damage.

7. Property damage remediation

The expert will put in place short-term fixes for any damage to your property. These temporary measures will help secure your property and stop further damage.

For example, if a storm damages your roof, they’ll cover it up with plywood to prevent the elements from getting in. Similarly, if your walls are damaged, they’ll board them up to stop thieves from getting into your property.

The Risk Of Inefficient Drying And Dehumidification After A Water Damage Incident

9/14/2022 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: SERVPRO Of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co. outlines why drying and dehumidification are Important for effective water damage restoration.

Water is disastrous, especially when it finds its way into your home or business. Most people just assume “the water will dry off on its own” after a water damage incident, but it rarely happens like that. Any form of moisture remaining in your walls, ceiling, floor, or belongings can lead to massive damage that will cost you so much to fix.

SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co. is a top-rated water damage mitigation and restoration company in Southlake. They have a team of trained and IICRC-certified professionals that can handle various types of property damage, from water to fire, and mold.

Their water restoration professionals share the importance of drying and dehumidifying your property during water damage restoration.

1. Mold growth

Mold growth is one of the main risks of water damage. Mold can grow on a wet surface up to 24 hours after flooding or any other water damage incident. This is why it’s not just enough to clear out the standing water, any water-soaked surface like your wall, ceiling, floor, rugs, or furniture becomes a candidate for mold growth. The only way to prevent mold growth is to dry off and dehumidify the affected areas and belongings.

2. Structural damage

Your home could sustain structural damage if you ignore the water damage, and it only gets worse. Most of the materials used for home construction, from building blocks to wood, aren’t environmentally friendly. As such, any water that permeates the structures of your property can gradually weaken it from the inside, leading to cracks in your walls, sagging or discolored ceilings, and more.

Proper drying and dehumidification eliminate these risks and protect the structural integrity of your property.

3. Cost of repair

The truth is that the longer water damage is ignored, the more expensive a repair will be. Even if you clean out the water without adequately drying out hidden moisture, things will continue to get worse. Your drywall will crack, and the plywood will begin to rot. When you eventually take care of it, you might have spent a lot more money than necessary.

4. Electrical shocks and damage

Electricity and water are integral parts of our daily lives. But when combined, they can be devastating. Water and electricity can cause harm, fire, and even death. So, it’s essential to ensure that the water from flooding or other types of water damage never comes in contact with electricity.

If water seeps into your property's electrical components and wiring, it can lead to fire or electrical shocks. Drying and humidifying the affected areas ensures the water and electricity never meet.

5. Protect the aesthetics of your home

Undried water damage can impact the appearance of your home or office. You want your space to be tidy. However, water damage might be an unsightly blemish on your beautiful property.

Also, it can result in a musky odor that makes the whole place unpleasant. This is often a sign of mold infestation. Drying and dehumidifying your space will remove any kind of odor and spots.

Effective Steps to quicken property damage restoration

8/24/2022 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co explains the steps to speed up the process of restoring a property after water or fire damage.

There are several factors that can lead to damage to your Southlake property. It can be water damage from flooding, sewage backup, pipe bursts, roof leaks, or fire damage. Regardless of the cause of the damage, the promptness of the restoration is the most essential factor that determines the level of loss you suffer.

The restoration specialists at SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co, a professional property damage restoration services company in Southlake, have outlined the following tips to speed up property damage restoration in your home or business.

1. Hire a reputable cleaning and restoration company

The most important thing you can do to hasten property damage restoration is to call in a reputable damage restoration company like SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co team. They'll quickly come to your property, assess the damage, and work to repair any damage swiftly and efficiently.

2. Disconnect the electricity

Water and electricity are never a good combination. So, if possible, turn off the electricity to the flooded house before you navigate any standing water. This way, you won't have to worry about getting electrocuted.

3. Find the source of the damage

If you discover any water, you should first locate its source and immediately stop the flow. If the water is coming from a source inside the house (like a broken pipe), turn it off to stop the damage.

Also, make every effort to reduce or stop the water flow if it’s coming from a separate source.

4. Extract standing water

Once you’ve turned off the water from its source, the next step is to drain any standing water. There are different ways to do this, but using a sump pump is one of the best.

You can install a sump pump in your basement to be able to remove a lot of water from your house in the event of a flood.

5. Dry property structures

After the water is gone, you still have to dry out all the moisture left behind. The simplest method to do this is to open your windows and doors to encourage natural air circulation throughout your home.

You should point to whatever fans you can safely use at the worst-affected locations to help the moisture dry off more quickly.

6. Dehumidify your home

A dehumidifier is an excellent instrument for drying out extra moisture. They are reasonably priced, with high-quality models available for less than $200.

Ensure the device you choose has a sizable bin to store the water it removes. Humidifiers with a small water bin require frequent bin replacement to function correctly.

7. Check for mold

When water damage is not dealt with and dried out fast, it can result in secondary damage like microbial growth and structural components losing their integrity, possibly affecting indoor air quality.

8. Clean and sterilize

It’s essential to sanitize the areas affected by fire or water damage. Sheets and drapes that floodwaters have saturated should be dry cleaned or washed in really hot water with laundry soap.

Any dishes, pans, or glassware that come into contact with floodwaters or smoke need to be thoroughly cleaned. Food in sealed glass jars or in undamaged cans can be kept if the containers are sterilized before being opened.

Property restoration professionals outline the steps to post-disaster property restoration

7/28/2022 (Permalink)

Blog summary: SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant Co outlines the steps to restore your home or business after a disaster.

Natural disasters like floods, heavy storms, and hurricanes can seriously damage your home or business. These damages are often unpreventable, even if you had months to prepare for them.

Whether these catastrophes are significant or mild, they can have a negative effect on a property’s structure, so it’s essential to act quickly once it passes to restore your home or business to a habitable state.

The professionals at SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co, a leading property damage restoration company in Grapevine, have put together the following steps for post-disaster property restoration.

1. Check for Safety

One of the most crucial things to keep in mind after a disaster is that your home can be unsafe to go into. The structure of the property may have been affected by the disaster. So consider having the property professionally inspected before you enter, and only do so when it has been determined that doing so is safe.

Ensure that the electricity is turned off before entering, especially if standing water is on the property.

2. Document everything

Recovery from a disaster is expensive. Hopefully, most or even all of these expenses will be covered by your property insurance coverage. The problem is that insurers have to turn a profit too, so they can refuse to honor a claim if you don’t have actual proof to back it up.

The exact extent of the damage must be known to the insurer, with evidence that an incident covered by the policy brought it on and that the repairs made were required to get the property back in working order. It is crucial to document as much information as possible regarding the disaster-related damage to your property to speed up the insurance claim process.

3. Assessment

The next stage is assessing the damage and determining if it is worth restoring or rebuilding. A remediation project should be considered if fixing the damage will be less expensive than rebuilding.

Cleaning up the damaged property, determining what needs to be fixed, and setting up a temporary roof to stop additional damage are all part of this process. In contrast, you should consider reconstruction projects if the cost of repairs is more than the cost of reconstruction.

4. File an insurance claim

Start the insurance claim procedure as soon as feasible to preserve your possessions and property. Waiting too long after a disaster may result in your insurance company denying your claim or leaving you without coverage for some losses.

After making a list of what needs to be replaced, get in touch with your insurance representative. Having all the required information before beginning the procedure is preferable to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible. Once you've called them, it can take a few days for your insurance provider to send an inspector out for their initial evaluation.

5. Cleaning up and rebuilding

The next step is to clean up the whole property and restore the affected parts of the house.

Clear out the debris and any damaged property. You may need first to get rid of any standing water to prevent further damage to your structures.

Once you are done cleaning, determine what needs to be fixed if your roof is damaged, and set up a temporary roof to protect your home.

6. Hire a property restoration company

While you can do some property restorations on your own, working with a property restoration company is always advisable. Disaster restoration companies like SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co are experienced in handling various disasters. They know what to do in multiple situations and can help you clean up your home and act proactively to prevent further property damage.

The turn of a new year inspires us to clean out the clutter. Homes, garages, and sheds are usually stocked of old unneeded or forgotten items. As we make room for new outdoor equipment and begin pulling out the things we haven't used most of the past year, we sometimes forget about our office spaces? Often, work is seen as separate and those spaces can often become stagnant.

This new year, SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County wants to remind you that having a clean and organized office space is just as important as a clean and organized home.

Getting rid of old papers, creating a new organization system, and removing the clutter can help make your work more efficient and easier to handle.

Tips to Help Get You Started

  1. Gather and redistribute

Gather up every item that isn't where it "belongs" and put it where it does. If it doesn't have a home, give it one or toss it.

Note: Consider an adhesive hook for hanging coats, scarves, lanyards and other items that take up space or look cluttered. It's an inexpensive way to make your office space tidy.

2. Clear off your desk

Remove everything, clean it thoroughly, and put back only those essential items for daily use.

3. Organize your desktop

Now that you've streamlined your desktop, it's a good idea to organize it. Use desktop organizers, baskets, and file folders to organize the items on your desk. Use trays for papers, and boxes for smaller items.

4. Organize your drawers

Put items used together in the same drawer space, stamps with envelopes, sticky pads with notepads, etc. Use drawer organizers for small items – paper clips, tacks, etc. Use a separate drawer for personal items.

5. Proximity

Position the equipment and supplies that you use most within reach. Things that you rarely use can be stored or put away.

6. Sort mail

Don't just stick mail in a pile to be sorted or rifle through and take out the pieces you need right now and toss the junk before it begins to pile up. Sort it as soon as you get it – To act, To read, To file, To delegate or handoff.

7. Assign discard dates

You don't need to keep every piece of paper indefinitely. Mark on files or documents when they can be tossed or shredded.

Note: Legal or financial documents must be kept for a specified length of time. Make sure you know what those requirements are.

8. Filter your emails

Some emails are essential to read; others are just not that important. When you use the filter system to label different types of emails, you know their priority and reply first.

9. Consider going digital

How much of the paperwork that you have could be scanned and saved? You may be able to eliminate some of the files and folders you've used in the past by scanning and uploading them to your computer. Make sure you are doing regular back-ups.

10. Straighten your desk

Do a quick straighten at the end of the day, so you have a clean start the next day.

Deep Cleaning

Now that you've decluttered and organized your space, you may notice the dirt and dust left behind where you've moved your desk from, or the path you take to talk to and from your office might look a bit dirtier than others.

Freshen Up Your Walls

You spend a lot of time in your office space, so give it some TLC. Add photos of family or beautiful paintings to the walls. Ceiling and wall cleaning should also be part of the cleaning maintenance of your home or business, too. If you're thinking about adding a fresh coat of paint to your office to help freshen it up after you've reorganized, you should also clean walls before painting so that the primer and paint can adhere properly.

SERVPRO: The best choice for commercial cleaning services

12/17/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The blog by SERVPRO gives insight into its exceptional cleaning services for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

The best choice for commercial cleaning services

Commercial spaces require specialized and intensive cleaning to maintain the hygiene and aesthetics that are indispensable for a business to thrive. SERVPRO talks about its vast array of commercial cleaning services offered by its specialized team and products that can help a property return back to business swiftly and efficiently.

  1. Air Ducts and HVAC

An ill-maintained HVAC system can send the utility bill soaring, heighten the risk of microbial growth, increase the incidents of odors, and depreciate the quality of air within the building. On average, dust, pet dander, and other pollutants are recirculated within the building at least 5 to 7 times a day, leading to a build-up of contaminants in the air ducts. HVAC system maintenance includes not just air duct cleaning but also the cleaning of the motor, housing, fans, grilles, coils, and register.

The SERVPRO HVAC technician team thoroughly investigates any indoor air quality concerns and makes reasonable suggestions to remedy the situation. The team aspires to resolve the problem swiftly, save money and provide assurance to the owners that the job has been well done.

  1. Biohazard and Sewage

Trauma, sewage backups, chemical spills, hoarding, or other biohazards in a home or a commercial space can be both dangerous and upsetting. Biohazard cleanup and restoration of a business require specialized training and experience.

SERVPRO’s technicians have the experience and the training to provide a meticulous handling and specialized cleaning process to its customers. SERVPRO has over 50 years of experience in biochemical spill remediation and decontamination and with its new defensive pathogen cleaning program, Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned, cleaning now goes way beyond standard janitorial cleaning practices.

Grounded in its 3 C’s, Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned has the following features:

  • Consult: A bespoke cleaning program is curated based on the unique needs of each facility.
  • Clean: An expert deep clean is initiated using SERVPRO’s proprietary EPA-Approved Hospital-Grade cleaning solutions and always adhering to the leading level of cleaning and decontamination standards set by the CDC.
  • Certify: The Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned shield represents SERVPRO’s commitment to the comfort and security of its employees, customers, and community.

SERVPRO provides cleanup and recovery services for many biohazard situations from sewage backups, crime scene residues, suicide/death accidents, homicide cleanups, and blood cleanup to accident cleanup, hoarding scenes, and chemical spills.

  1. Trauma and Crime Scene

A trauma scene cleanup must be handled by trained professionals to ensure the health and safety of residents and employees. The SERVPRO team offers extreme discretion, professionalism, and privacy in handling these situations. The technicians use specialized equipment, protective gear, and specifically designed solutions to make sure the affected area is hygienic and clean. The team offers services such as cleaning fingerprint powder and evidence-gathering chemicals, tear gas and pepper spray residues, fire extinguisher residue, and blood, bodily fluids, and tissue remnants.

  1. Carpet and Upholstery

Carpets can become home to dust, mites, germs, and pathogens along with unpleasant odors. Regularly cleaning a carpet is essential to maintain the aesthetics as well as the indoor air quality and hygiene of a commercial property. Moreover, regular carpet cleanings help extend the life of a carpet.

SERVPRO technicians have the IICRC certification as well as the know-how of cleaning different types of carpets and upholstery through bonnet cleaning, hot water extraction/steam cleaning, showcase cleaning, and dry cleaning.

  1. Drapes and Blinds

Draperies must always be dry cleaned ONLY by cleaners who have equipment specifically designed for draperies. Professional cleaning triples the life of draperies which is relatively inexpensive when compared to replacement costs.

The SERVPRO team thoroughly inspects and tests fabrics to ascertain the right cleaning method for every fabric. The team uses state-of-the-art equipment and five different cleaning methods designed specifically for cleaning fine fabrics at a reasonable price.

The specialized dry cleaning at SERVPRO is conducted by injecting a specially formulated solvent into the drapery under pressure. The chemical is extracted, leaving the drapes impeccably clean as well as protecting the material from any shrinkage.

  1. Ceilings, Walls, and Hard Floors

With redecoration, dirt and grime often accumulate on walls, ceilings, and hard floors. Cleaning helps keep the dust from building up and keeps the air clean. Moreover, a clean wall enables the primer and paints to adhere to the surface.

SERVPRO’s professional technicians have specialized training in time-tested and industry-approved cleaning methods to clean and restore the floor and ceiling’s beauty.

  1. Odor Removal and Deodorization

Unpleasant odors can originate from several sources both inside and outside a structure including mold growth, dirty carpets, and unclean air ducts. Masking an odor with home remedies doesn’t address the source of the odor and can worsen the situation.

SERVPRO understands the science of identifying and eliminating odors. The IICRC-trained technicians have access to equipment and odor removal products that are required to identify and eliminate offensive odors.

  1. Vandalism

From pranks to malicious destruction of property, vandalism and graffiti can be traumatic to the owners and damaging to a property.

The SERVPRO team acts swiftly to remove spray-painted graffiti from exterior walls as well as clean driveways, walkways, asphalt, metals, wood, glass, plastic, and masonry.

How to choose the right water damage restoration company?

10/20/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO blog suggests how to make the right choice when it comes to a water damage restoration service.

Tips to choose the right water damage restoration company

According to The American Insurance Association, water leaks lead to property losses worth over $10 billion annually. Whether the cause of the damage is natural disasters or leaks within the property, it is important to hire the right professional help to restore the property. What are the factors that a property owner must consider when choosing a water damage restoration company? SERVPRO shares some tips below.

  1. Immediate response to disaster

Water leaks lead to property damage that can compound over a while. Therefore, when choosing a specialist to help recover from a water damage event at the earliest, property owners must choose a company that has a swift emergency response. A water damage restoration company like SERVPRO is available 24x7 for its clients because it is proven that the sooner the response to a water damage event the lesser the damage will be. A company that can respond quickly offers peace of mind and immense confidence to a property owner.

  1. Licensed, Insured, well-trained team

When researching water damage restoration companies, property owners must check if the company is licensed and certified by IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification). This would ensure the company follows the highest standards of restoration processes. Additionally, the company must be properly licensed and insured in the state. A team that is constantly upgrading its skill-set and following the latest methods of cleaning is the best bet.

  1. Reviews and references

When a water disaster occurs, it barely leaves time to research and identify the right company. At a time like that, one of the smartest ways to choose a water damage restoration is to ask for references from family, friends, and neighbors. A locally owned and operated company often has enough and trustworthy reviews online and offline.

  1. Detailed estimate and plan for repairs

A professional water damage restoration company carefully assesses and documents the damage done and the necessary repairs. This estimate helps property owners make the best decisions on how to proceed and enables them to make insurance claims. A methodical and transparent water damage restoration process with reliable cost estimates is necessary for a satisfactory experience.

  1. Navigate insurance claims

An experienced water damage restoration company is likely to cooperate or have a pre-existing relationship with several insurance companies. An estimate created by the specialists helps in filing insurance claims in a timely and simple manner. In a time of crisis like this, every property owner needs a restoration specialist who can help with this potentially frustrating documentation and claim process.

  1. Latest state-of-the-art equipment and techniques

When a water damage event occurs, the latest equipment not only accelerates the restoration process but also ensures accuracy. The state-of-the-art equipment and techniques ensure that no moisture is left hidden in corners and crevices as it could be a potential cause for mold growth. The advanced technology that companies like SERVPRO possess also enables the restoration of important documents, artworks, and photographs that have been damaged by water.

  1. Respect and professionalism

Every home has been created by its owners with utmost effort and love. When a professional water damage restoration team like SERVPRO enters the premises of a client whose property has been damaged, the foremost thought is to respect every corner and content of the house. The ultimate purpose is to ensure everything that a client values is restored and repaired to the best of the team’s ability. The team must maintain courtesy and sensitivity towards the house and its owners during the restoration process.

SERVPRO responds swiftly to water damage at every milestone

8/12/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO team shares the water damage timeline and how it impacts a property at various stages. The blog also discusses how SERVPRO is the right choice for quick and professional restoration of water damage.

SERVPRO responds on time

The extent of water damage is directly proportional to the amount of time it takes to mitigate and restore the damage. Delayed water damage restoration can escalate a situation from mild to severe within hours and days. SERVPRO shares the water damage timeline and why a 24x7 response service is the best way to minimize damage and save costs.

The water damage timeline

Within Minutes

  • Water quickly spreads throughout the property, saturating everything in its path.
  • Water is absorbed into walls, floors, upholstery, and belongings.
  • Furniture finishes may bleed, causing permanent staining on carpets.
  • Photographs, books, and other paper goods start to swell and warp.

The SERVPRO team can swiftly arrive on-site, assess the damage, and begin the water mitigation process. With the help of powerful pumps and vacuum units, the team can quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons from the property. This in turn helps prevent secondary water damage and mold growth.

Hours 1 - 24

  • Drywall begins to swell and break down.
  • Metal surfaces begin to tarnish.
  • Furniture begins to swell and crack.
  • Dyes and inks from cloth and paper goods spread and stain.
  • A musty odor appears, indicating the presence of mold.

With its state-of-the-art technology and 50 years of experience, SERVPRO methodically identifies the issues and documents the water damage restoration process from the beginning till the end. The technicians utilize room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the optimal number of air movers and dehumidifiers needed to dry the property.

48 Hours to 1 Week

  • Mold and mildew may grow and spread, forming colonies.
  • Doors, windows, and studs swell and warp.
  • Metal begins to rust and corrode.
  • Furniture warps and shows signs of mold.
  • Paint begins to blister.
  • Wood flooring swells and warps.
  • Serious biohazard contamination is possible.

The SERVPRO team provides the service of move-out to homeowners in case of massive restoration work. The threat of shaky structures and the uncontrolled spread of mold colonies often mandate that the owners move out to a safer accommodation while the professionals take care of the damage.

More Than 1 Week

  • Restoration time and cost increase dramatically; replacing contaminated materials and structural rebuilding may be extensive.
  • Structural safety, mold growth, and biohazard contaminants pose serious risks to occupants.

Once water damage has been occurring for over a week, the risks it poses to the homeowner’s health are compounded. The SERVPRO team carefully assesses the plan of action which includes restoration of important contents, removal of mold, biohazard decontamination, deodorization, and minor as well as major building services.

This water damage timeline showcases the importance of addressing even a minor water damage situation immediately. Left unchecked, small water damage issues can escalate into larger and more dangerous concerns that eventually cost much more time and money. Moreover, it is very important for homeowners to contact a water damage restoration company such as SERVPRO, which has the resources and the experience, to respond swiftly.

SERVPRO Shares Nine Benefits of hiring a Professional Restoration Company

7/14/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: This article by SERVPRO discusses the benefits of professional property restoration.

9 Benefits of Hiring a Professional Restoration Company like SERVPRO

After a storm, fire, or water damage to a property, a DIY cleaning may seem tempting but is a recipe for further damage and loss. SERVPRO shares below the benefits of hiring a professional water damage restoration company to help return a property to its original state.

  • Restore instead of replace

Only a professional team has the expertise and know-how to quickly investigate and identify what can be restored and what simply needs to be replaced. An amateur eye with limited skills and equipment may decide to discard contents that a professional may be able to restore. This enables cost-saving by avoiding replacements, eliminates the need for an insurance claim, and saves precious contents that may have sentimental or legal value.

At the same time, a professional restoration expert would not waste time and money on restoring something unsalvageable.

  • Distinguish between materials

It takes a professional eye to analyze the different types of surfaces and apply the right cleaning method for optimum results. An amateur cleaning gone wrong won’t just lead to a waste of money but also a permanent loss of the contents. For instance, professionals have the experience to clean and restore a section of drywall, which saves a lot of mess, time, and cost of replacing it. An amateur may not have the skills or the knowledge to address this issue.

  • Work with insurance companies

A professional damage restoration company that works with a property owner can assist with insurance claims from the initial call through the completion of mitigation. Most homeowners don’t have the expertise or the experience in filing insurance claims, which may be required in cases of severe property damage. A professional restoration team offers the additional advantage of commitment and smooth processing of insurance claims.

  • Provide correct estimates

Professional restoration firms provide correct estimates which enables them to process claims quickly and efficiently. The awareness of the most current technologies and methods for the restoration process enables the team to reduce property claims costs.

  • Offer state-of-the-art equipment

A professional restoration company like SERVPRO has the latest equipment and technology to assess the damage accurately. The complete restoration process is monitored and documented from the beginning till the end. An amateur may hire the equipment but may not have the skill to use it efficiently. This may in turn lead to a lot of time wastage while secondary damage escalates.

  • Upgrade and train

Professional restoration teams undergo constant training and development to stay at par with current industry certifications. This continuous up-gradation keeps the team on top of their game and ensures that property owners experience the most updated restoration process.

Additionally, a professional restoration company has the business licenses and insurance coverage necessary for such a business.

  • Timely service

A professional water damage restoration company is punctual and accurate in its work. It takes just one call to schedule an appointment with a professional restoration company like SERVPRO that offers its services 24X7. Its competent technicians with their top-notch training and advanced restoration tools can get the job done. Swiftly and accurately.

  • Protect the health

Severe water damage caused by floods or fire extinguishing activity poses a massive risk of secondary water damage such as mold and contaminated water. These adverse conditions can lead to severe health effects. A professional water damage restoration company can remedy the contaminated water situation as well as other related issues. It is important to get a property sanitized and cleaned at the earliest by a professional team to protect one’s health.

Why SERVPRO?

  • SERVPRO uses state-of-the-art equipment to bring the damaged property back to its original state. SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County is constantly updating its fleet and equipment so clients in Southlake, Grapevine, Keller, or surrounding areas can quickly access the services.

SERVPRO suggests immediate steps to check water and mold damage after a storm

5/12/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: Discussing the emergency tips that one needs to follow to combat water and mold damage after a storm and the need for professional help to restore a house to its original state

Emergency tips for water and mold damage

Storms can wreak havoc on daily life and cause serious damage to homes and commercial properties. They are accompanied by water as well as mold damage. Specialized equipment and techniques are required to restore properties to their original glory.

To contain the damage caused by water and mold, professional water restoration companies such as SERVPRO must be contacted to ensure safety and hygiene. Until professional help arrives, here are some emergency tips for water and mold damage control.

Water damage

Flooding and water damage after a storm needs attention within the first 24 hours. SERVPRO suggests the following actions to mitigate water damage:

  1. Click pictures: First and foremost, click pictures of the damage caused by the storm. This digital record of the premises is imperative for any insurance claims and to avoid any hassles at a later date.
  2. Dry it up: Move accessories from floor and table-tops and mop or blot excess water from floors, furniture, and upholstery. Leave the windows open and allow fresh air to circulate. Carpets must be dried within the first two days.
  3. Spot structural damage: Watch out for buckled walls, floors, and ceilings as well as any glass or other dangerous debris on the floor. Stay away from these structural damages until professional help arrives.
  4. Steer clear of electricity: Do not use any electric or heating appliances that were submerged in water until they have been checked by the local utility. This ensures there are no surprise shocks.
  5. Protect furniture and furnishings: Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting. Remove wet and/or colored rugs from wet carpeting.
  6. Safeguard expensive art: Move expensive art pieces and other precious items to a dry and safe place until the damage is reversed.
  7. Maintain hygiene: Floodwater is a concoction of dangerous chemicals, human and livestock waste, germs, and other contaminants that can cause effects to health. So it is imperative to maintain hygiene by washing hands with soap and/or using alcohol-based wipes or sanitizers.

Mold damage

Mold damage usually accompanies storms and flooding since it thrives on moisture. These spores can multiply swiftly, causing health effects, leading to structural damage and ruining belongings. If mold is suspected, a professional mold remediation company such as SERVPRO must be contacted for successful mold removal. Here are some emergency tips to manage mold until then:

  1. Avoid the fungus: Stay away from the mold to avoid any health effects that stem from exposure to mold spore exposure.
  2. Do not attempt removal: Do not touch, blow air on, attempt to dry, or spray any disinfectants on the fungus. The mold removal must be done by a professional, mold remediation company.
  3. Switch off the HVAC: Turn off the HVAC system and fans to halt further dispersal of the spores.

The professionals at SERVPRO are available 24-hours a day and work to provide storm restoration services for both residential properties and commercial buildings. They respond to calls quickly to minimize damage and, in turn, the costs of cleanup and restoration.

Locally owned companies are more invested in ensuring communities bounce back after major storms. Their clients aren’t just clients—they’re neighbors, friends, and family.

New Franchise Ownership!

12/12/2020 (Permalink)

We have an announcement!

Our franchise has had a new change in ownership!! We would love to welcome Derek and Gabby Shaw to our SERVPRO team. They are now the proud owners of our three franchises. It goes without saying that our team is excited about this new change in leadership!

For those that are curious, here is a little bit about the new owners:
Derek was born and raised in Shreveport, LA to humble beginnings. He was instilled with a strong competitive nature that threw him into the corporate world of sales and leadership. Years of success in sales and sales management fueled his desire to be a highly successful entrepreneur. He took on that challenge and became a multi-unit area developer for Nekter Juice Bar in the DFW region that he manages with his wife, Gabby. Gabby was born and raised in southern Louisiana, where she was exposed to the family construction business, led by her grandfather and father. She has held positions in sales, management, and independent entrepreneurial ventures. At each step along the way, she gained valuable knowledge, expertise and leadership skills. During the start-up of the Nektar franchises, Gabrielle gained the experience of overseeing the build-out of the sites and supervising the construction. This experience gave her great insights and expertise as an entrepreneur, which would serve her well as a SERVPRO franchisee. They now proudly reside in Southlake and are fully immersed in the surrounding communities.

We look forward to everyone getting to meet them and work together. Please help us welcome them to the team!

First Steps After Disaster Strikes Your Business

12/8/2020 (Permalink)

dallas tornado disaster 2019 Tornado in Dallas 2019

Natural disasters like tornadoes are unfortunately a reality in the DFW complex, which is why it’s smart to verse yourself in what to do after disaster strikes your business. During 2019 and 2020, the devastating tornadoes in Dallas and Arlington brought lots of disaster to our city, and now is the time to educate yourself to know what to do if something terrible comes your way.

If your business experiences a natural disaster of any type, this is what you should do first.

  1. Stay out of the building until it is deemed safe to enter.

Never ever enter your storefront or office building until professionals deem that it is safe to enter following a disaster like a tornado, a fire, or a severe storm. There may be underlying structural issues that aren’t visible to the eye, and you should never risk your safety and well-being to enter a building without first having it examined post-disaster.

  1. Call for professional disaster restoration help.

In order to have someone assess the damage, rely on the professionals. You can reach SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County at any hour of any day for emergency assistance by dialing (817) 595-2506. Call this number and relay the disaster that has occurred along with your business’s physical location, and after you talk to the operator, wait for help to arrive. There’s nothing that you should do before a professional can properly assess the damage that has occurred and take care of any issues that require immediate action.

  1. Take pictures of the damage for the property insurance claim.

While you wait for the professionals to arrive from a safe distance away from your business’s building, you can take pictures of the damage from afar to document what has happened. These pictures will be important to pass along to your property insurance carrier so you can make a claim after paying your deductible to receive any money back for the damage.

Although it may seem counterintuitive to stay away from your business’s building and do nothing beyond call for help and take pictures to document the damage post-disaster, trust us when we say that doing less is the safest thing to do. Disasters are to be taken seriously, and you should always let the disaster restoration professionals assess the safety of your commercial property before approaching and entering it yourself.

When disaster strikes, SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County is here to help. Ring us at (817) 595-2506 for emergency assessments and restoration services after any disaster.

Immediate First Steps to Take If An Appliance is Leaking

11/25/2020 (Permalink)

Have you ever come home to water pooling on your floor under your sink or by your refrigerator? You may have panicked. Immediate steps to take after a water leak aren’t really common knowledge, so it’s important to educate yourself beforehand so you know what to do if an appliance leaks on you!

1. After you’ve discovered a water leak, shut off the water to that appliance.

Depending on when you’ve caught the leak, you may be able to avoid the most costly damage. However, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. After identifying a leak, shut off water flow to that appliance so that you can find its source.

2. Unplug nearby electronics.

Any electronics near the leak should also be unplugged and shut off. If the water from the leak appears excessive, turn off the circuit breaker to your home. Give your local electrician a call as well as the restoration professionals to assess the damage and how to proceed. Your safety is paramount.

3. Note where the water appears to be coming from.

Appliance water leaks often can be categorized into three common problems: a drain line leak, a supply line leak, or a burst pipe. A drain line leak stems from a leaky drain that isn’t properly working. This may be fast or slow and can result in bacteria in the line. On the other hand, a supply line leak stems from leaks in your water supply piping that brings water to your appliance.

4. Take pictures for insurance claims.

Especially if extensive damage has occurred, take pictures of the leak and the subsequent water damage to file an insurance claim with. It’s important that you do this before cleaning up any of the mess so that you have accurate documentation of the leak.

5. Call the professionals.

While there are ways you can attempt to identify the leak type and resolve it yourself, it’s always a smart investment to call the local plumbing professionals to assess the leak and fix it. If there is damage that needs to be cleaned up, you’ll probably need to contact your local restoration company, too.

If you’re dealing with the aftermath of an appliance water leak in your home, give SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County a call at (817) 595-2506. We’re available 24/7 and have seasoned technicians trained and equipped to handle water damage, fire damage, storm damage, mold, and other disasters.
