In Texas, there are many disaster restoration contractors that specialize in providing services for commercial properties. But how do you know which one is right for you? Let’s explore what to look out for when searching for a contractor who can help restore your commercial property after a disaster.

Choosing the Right Provider

It’s important to research potential providers thoroughly before signing any contracts or committing to any services. Here are some key factors you should consider when selecting a provider:

Experience

Look for a contractor that has experience in restoring commercial properties from similar disasters. Ask them about their previous projects, successes, and challenges they faced along the way. This will give you an idea of their capabilities and how confident they are in tackling your project.

Process

Make sure to ask about their process for completing the work on your property. For example, what steps do they take to ensure safe working conditions? How long will it take them to complete the job? Do they have access to specialized equipment that might be needed? Knowing the answers to these questions will help make sure the process runs smoothly and efficiently.

Reputation

Check out reviews from past customers or other industry professionals who have used their services before making your decision. This will give you an idea of how reliable and trustworthy they are as well as what kind of results you can expect from working with them.

Technology

What technology do they have access to and how do they leverage it to ensure your restoration project runs smoothly? This can involve anything from the actual equipment they use to restore your commercial property to the apps and software they use to track updates and communicate progress.

Disaster restoration contractors play a critical role in restoring commercial properties after disasters strike. Finding the right one can ensure your property is restored quickly and safely so that operations can resume as soon as possible. By researching potential providers, asking questions about their experience, process, technology, and reputation, you can be sure that your property is in good hands when it comes time for recovery efforts following a disaster.

Water damage professional outlines the importance of commercial flood repair for businesses in Keller

7/28/2022 (Permalink)

Blog summary: Has your business suffered from flooding? Here’s why it’s essential to take prompt action to expertly repair the damages.

Business damage can happen in several ways, but a flood commonly causes it. This is true because there are several factors that might lead to flooding, including external problems like heavy storms and interior ones like pipe bursts and sewage backup.

When such incidents occur, the excess water in your property is quickly absorbed by porous building components and furnishings, causing even more damage.

With enough time, the damaged materials will decay or deform and may even start to sprout mold.

To mitigate this, the professionals at SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant Co, a leading commercial restoration service company in Keller, TX, have outlined the importance of commercial flood damage repair for Keller businesses.

1. Return to normal quickly

Flooding will typically result in putting a hold on commercial activities or restricting these activities to the unaffected areas.

Naturally, the sooner the issue is fixed, the sooner you can get your life back. You want to return to normal as quickly as possible, whether that means starting your business again or gaining access to the flooded space.

2. Stop mold from growing

Surfaces left wet for an extended period provide a dangerous breeding ground for contaminants like mildew and mold, even after standing water has been removed.

Mold can grow inside flooring materials or under carpeting, where it may not always be immediately apparent. It is essential to hire professionals to address water damage to remove water from all surfaces, spot possible issues, and eradicate mold development before it becomes more complicated.

3. Keep your structures safe

Your building's wood, drywall, floors, and ceilings may become damaged due to excessive moisture exposure. Structural components must be adequately dried after eliminating standing water to avoid long-term damage and expensive repairs.

Leaving water in your walls and other property structures can lead to swells, paint peeling, wood rot, and other damages to your property.

4. Identify discrete moisture

Water damage very seldom dries out, despite appearances to the contrary. Deep surface penetration allows moisture to enter areas where it shouldn't be.

So your business structure and equipment may not be actually dry just because it feels and looks that way. Your flooring and walls could still have water underneath them.

It’s essential to ensure that any moisture has been completely removed to protect your property and its fixtures.

5. Safeguard your valuables

Water from broken pipes, sewage backups, and floods can damage valuable business equipment, documents, and even decorations. While some furniture and other delicate goods are more susceptible to being instantly destroyed by water, prompt restoration by specialists can stop extensive damage. Drying out these items after removing water and preserving your possessions is essential.

6. It saves you money longtime

Improper commercial water damage repairs can result in massive damages that can cost you more in the future. For example, paying a professional to remove mold and replace rotting building materials will cost significantly more.

The floors, walls, and structure of your commercial property can also be damaged if there’s water left in them for an extended period, putting anyone in the building at risk.

SERVPRO: Water damage losses that commercial properties face

6/17/2022 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO blog gives insight into the damages flooding can cause in a commercial building.

The impact of water damage on commercial properties

In the event of flooding due to natural disasters or plumbing mishaps, commercial properties stand to lose a lot in terms of property as well as revenue. Additionally, a water damage event can also pose potential health issues to the occupants. SERVPRO, a commercial cleaning service, shares the various losses a business faces in case of a water damage event.

1. Property and Equipment Loss

Different types of businesses face different challenges and losses during water damage events. Here are the potential losses businesses face:

  1. Damaged building parts such as drywall, ceiling, flooring, area dividers, or fixtures.
  2. Valuable electronic equipment meant for production processes or computer systems in the office can become erratic after coming in contact with water.
  3. Custom workstations or specialized manufacturing equipment can get damaged and can be a limited version or very expensive to replace.
  4. Raw materials and finished goods in storerooms can soak up the water and lose their value.
  5. Valuable documents including legal and financial papers are irreplaceable and a severe water damage may make the restoration of these documents impossible or very difficult.

2. Biohazard

In commercial buildings, water damage can belong to different classes and categories which determine the risk it poses to the health of the inhabitants.

The class of water damage indicates the area impacted by water and the amount of moisture that has been absorbed by the contents and the structure.

The categories of water damage include clean, gray, and black water, which indicate the level of contamination in the water and its source. Gray and black water can pose some potential health risks to the occupants of the building. This water may contain bacteria, viruses, chemicals, and pathogens making the immediate evacuation of occupants necessary.

It is the responsibility of the building manager or business owner to keep the occupants of the building safe from these risks. Therefore, awareness of these matters is crucial.

3. HVAC System Contaminations

Moisture in the HVAC systems can heighten the risk of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms circulating in the air, infecting everyone in the building. Stagnant water unaddressed for over 48 hours can lead to the growth of mold that can worsen the air quality and cause some potential health effects. The HVAC and ductwork must be inspected by a certified HVAC expert after the water damage event.

4. Safety hazards

After the flooding, besides structural and electrical damage, the risk of fire hazards, gas leaks, pest infestation, and mold are also increased. All these potential risks must be investigated after the water damage to prevent further loss.

In the event of water damage in a commercial building, business owners must contact an experienced water damage restoration expert such as SERVPRO for water removal and restoration at the earliest to prevent further damage to the property and decreased productivity due to the event.

SERVPRO Recommends Regular Duct Cleaning In Commercial Buildings

4/16/2022 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO Article Explains Why Commercial Building Owners Must Invest In Professional And Regular Air Duct Cleaning.

Why should air ducts be cleaned regularly in commercial properties?

The caretaker of a commercial building is responsible for maintaining its indoor air quality and ambiance. Air duct cleaning is one such task that must be conducted regularly by a professional team to ensure optimum functioning and the general well-being of those working on the premises. This article by SERVPRO, a commercial cleaning service, discusses six reasons why regular duct cleaning is of utmost importance in commercial buildings.

  1. High-quality indoor air

Inadequate airflow can lead to the accumulation of pollutants such as dust, volatile organic compounds, molds, and microbes inside a commercial building. Poor quality air, inefficient air filtration, and duct leaks can allow the dust to enter the duct system. This pollutant-laden air can lead to health issues and reduce the productivity of employees. Therefore, cleaning the air ducts regularly is crucial for high-quality indoor air.

  1. Prevent mold growth

Water vapor can form within the duct system when cold air passes through, and when there is high water vapor content in the outside environment, the water droplets collect instead of evaporating. This moist environment along with the nutrition from the dust, dirt, dead skin cells, and animal dander in the duct offers a perfect environment for mold growth. This mold may cause health effects. A regular inspection and cleaning can prevent unchecked mold growths and musty odors.

  1. Prevent pest infestation

A duct system offers a safe space with basics such as water for pests such as mice, squirrels, and bees. These pests often leave behind nesting material, hair, and dead insects, which in turn may contribute to mold growth. These contaminants can easily flow indoors with the air and cause possible health issues.

  1. Low energy consumption

Just one millimeter of dust and dirt build-up can reduce the efficiency of an HVAC system by 21%. A system that is heavy with dust and dirt has to work harder to maintain the required temperature. Regularly removing contaminants from the mechanical components of the air handlers and heating and air conditioning units enhances the energy efficiency of the HVAC system and reduces utility bills.

  1. Longer lifespan

A clogged unit means impaired airflow in the system. In such a scenario, the fan motor would need to work harder to distribute the conditioned air to all areas. With regular cleaning, the ducts will allow air to flow freely, deposit less dust on the evaporator coil, and the motor to consume less energy. This efficiency also grants a longer life to the equipment.

  1. Enhanced productivity

Every employer dreams of high productivity, minimum healthcare costs, and low absenteeism. High-quality indoor air and efficient HVAC air filters offer exactly that. A clean duct ensures good quality air and reduces health effects.

Commercial building owners can contact a professional commercial cleaning services team such as SERVPRO for a thorough duct cleaning and smoothly functioning HVAC. A professional team has the skill and equipment to access and clean all components of the system such as motor and fan housing; supply and return air ducts; diffusers and grilles; drain or drip pans; heat exchangers; cooling and heating coils; unit housing; and internal air ducts.

SERVPRO: The usual suspects behind drywall damage in offices

2/28/2022 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO blog discusses the reasons behind drywall damage in commercial buildings and its impact.

Drywall damage in commercial buildings

With its fire resistance and fireproofing qualities, drywall is a very popular element in commercial buildings. Like most things, drywall is also susceptible to damage, which must be addressed immediately for aesthetic and safety reasons. SERVPRO of Grapevine discusses drywalls and the common causes of drywall damage in commercial buildings.

What is drywall?

Drywall is a building material used to cover framing on walls and ceilings. Gypsum, a naturally-occurring, eco-friendly mineral, is mixed with other materials to create a slurry. This slurry is sandwiched between two layers of paper and dried. The paper type and thickness, along with the chemicals in the slurry, determine the type of drywall.

This dried layer is screwed onto the framing structure, the joints between drywall panels are taped to hide the gap, and then mud is applied to smooth the transition and patch the screw holes. Once the mud dries, it’s sanded to a fine finish and the wall is textured or painted.

The impact of drywall damage

In an office space, damaged drywall can cause some serious damage in many ways:

  • Structural issues are inevitable when damaged drywall goes unrepaired for a long period.
  • Health issues are a possibility due to musty odors and dangerous mold growth.
  • Wire exposure is likely when the holes and cracks in the drywall grow larger over time leading to numerous safety hazards.
  • Energy efficiency is significantly reduced as cracks and holes in drywalls will lead to loss of insulation. Higher utility costs can prove to be detrimental to a business.

Causes of drywall damage in commercial buildings

Drywall damage can be cosmetic or substantial. Either way, it must be repaired immediately. Even minor damage can ruin the aesthetics of an office and lower its value. Whereas substantial damage to a drywall can threaten the integrity of the structure making it a safety concern. Holes, nails, bubbles, and dents are all signs that a commercial drywall needs some attention.

  • Plumbing Issues – A large bubble in drywall or a damp odor indicates a plumbing issue. Plumbing issues are one of the leading causes of drywall damage in commercial buildings.
  • Wear and Tear – Shifting and shuffling furniture such as desks, filing cabinets, and chairs can lead to dents, marks, and cracks in drywall. Moreover, aging drywall or damaged drywall with dents and cracks must be repaired and maintained to prevent further damage.
  • Severe Weather – Storms, hail, high winds, and heavy rains can lead to drywall damage. This can be worse if there are pre-existing structural issues and flaws in the building that have not been addressed yet.
  • Foundation Settling – The foundation is likely to settle over time leading to cracks in the drywall. It is possible to cover up these cracks with a paint job but severe damage may require more extensive repairs.
  • Termites – Office buildings in certain areas may be more susceptible to termite damage. Unaddressed, termites can seriously jeopardize the integrity of drywalls and pose a safety concern to the employees and customers. If termites are detected, building managers must immediately call a pest control company as well as a professional team to take care of the drywall issues.

What steps should building managers take to control the water damage caused by burst pipes?

1/27/2022 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO blog gives insights into the ideal steps commercial building managers must take to prevent extensive water damage due to burst pipes.

Steps to take when a pipe bursts in a commercial building

A pipe bursting in the office building is a huge concern. Ideally, a regularly inspected plumbing system will be maintained well and prevent any minor problems from expanding into bigger problems. But errors happen and they can lead to disasters. SERVPRO shares some steps the building manager must take to minimize damage in the event of a pipe burst.

When there is water all over the place, the biggest concern must be the safety of all inhabitants. Flooded areas present an array of safety hazards from electrocution to weakened structural integrity. Here are the immediate steps to take in the event of a flooded commercial building:

  • Find the source and disconnect

The first step is to shut off the inflow of water. The leak may or may not be evident, Either way, the source of the water leak must be discovered at the earliest and the main water valve must be switched off to prevent further water damage.

  1. Turn off the electricity

Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. A flooded building with its electrical outlets, power strips, and other electrical devices puts everyone at risk of electrocution.

In case of extensive flooding or if the building manager can’t locate the breaker switch for the affected area, the power to the complete building can be turned off for safety reasons.

  1. Shut off the main water supply

Ideally, the building’s water main or the valves to the affected pipe must be turned off quickly. But if this becomes impossible, the building’s emergency maintenance department should be contacted to shut off the main water supply immediately.

  1. Collect the remaining water

Even after the burst pipe supply is turned off, the water that’s already in the pipes will still flow out until it’s empty. Collecting this water in a bucket can go a long way in preventing further and extensive damage to the property.

  1. Remove valuable contents

Office space has expensive and valuable contents such as laptops and official documents that must be removed and placed in a safe area. Flooding events can cause irreparable damage to important contents. Although with the latest technology a lot of documents can be restored, it is best to protect them from further damage.

  1. Contact the professionals

The priority is to fix the leaking pipe at the earliest. This can be done by a professional plumber who can discover the leak and replace the damaged section. Thereafter, it is crucial to call in an experienced water damage restoration company such as SERVPRO that can help homeowners document the damage for insurance purposes, and begin the water removal and drying out process. In case of extensive damage, SERVPRO technicians can offer construction services as well.

Why SERVPRO?

  • SERVPRO uses state-of-the-art equipment to bring the damaged property back to its original state. SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County is constantly updating its fleet and equipment so clients in Southlake, Grapevine, Keller, or surrounding areas can quickly access the services.

What are the risks of commercial water damage?

12/17/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO blog talks about the risks of water damage that can impact a business.

The risks of commercial water damage

Water damage to commercial buildings has a more widespread impact than in residential buildings. The reasons are a larger area, the complexity of the mechanical systems, more people or employees, and more expensive machines compared to homes. This entails higher restoration costs for businesses that often struggle with remediating these costs. Therefore it’s important to know more about the risks when trying to tackle water damage. SERVPRO shares how water damage can impact commercial establishments.

  1. Property and Equipment Loss

Water damage can severely impact a business, especially if there is valuable equipment concerned.

  • Most businesses use electronics for payment, stock-keeping, or managing employee hours that can be expensive to replace or repair.
  • Larger items, like custom workstations or specialized manufacturing equipment, can prove to be a huge loss as they may be harder to replace due to special customization or limited stock.
  • Water damage also can damage things like stock or supplies needed for normal operations.
  • Other potential losses may include parts of the structure like drywall, ceiling, flooring, or fixtures that may be irreplaceable depending on the structure or age of the building.
  1. Occupant Health and Safety

Water in commercial spaces damages not just property and equipment but is also hazardous to the occupants.

  • Wet areas increase the risk of workplace accidents due to faulty equipment, slippery floors, or unstable structures impacted by moisture.
  • Secondary water damage such as mold can worsen the situation if the water damage is not addressed in time. Mold is considered to have severe health effects for human beings who spend a lot of time working around the affected areas.
  • Contaminated water due to water leaks can also be a biohazard. Gray water from sources like sinks, dishwashers, washing machines, and showers can be a health hazard. In worst cases, black water or sewage water from toilets can cause severe health problems such as nausea.
  • The health of every occupant from tenant and customer to supplier or employee, can be affected by contaminated water and eventually affect the reputation of the establishment.
  1. Financial Costs

The biggest risks in situations of commercial water damage are the long-term and short-term financial costs.

  • Rental properties impacted by a water damage incident will incur a loss of lease income from tenants who cannot occupy a damaged property.
  • Retail businesses lose revenue or time in terms of operating hours when the establishment and its equipment become damaged or unsafe to use.
  • Profits are expended in repairing the water damage caused. These could include insurance deductible payments if covered by a policy, or potentially uncovered losses that won’t be fully covered by insurance.
  • The claims processes and repair projects are time-consuming and tedious tasks. The time a property owner is required to spend away from the business to take care of these repair and claims processes is a loss of money.

Catching water damage early and remediating it sooner than later will mitigate these

risks. For swift and efficient water damage restoration services, commercial property owners can contact SERVPRO and its team of licensed and experienced technicians.

The 7-step Fire Restoration Process for Commercial Buildings

11/16/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO blog dives into the several steps that are involved in restoring a commercial property after a fire damage event.

Fire damage restoration for commercial buildings

Immediate action after a commercial fire is important to prevent further damage and foster swift restoration of the business to preloss condition. Any delay can cause the soot, smoke, and water damage to worsen and increase the cost of restoration. SERVPRO shares the fire restoration process for commercial buildings.

Step 1: Emergency Contact

Calling the fire damage restoration professionals such as SERVPRO immediately can ignite the restoration process quickly. The representatives will ask relevant questions about the fire damage event to gauge the resources and equipment needed to begin the restoration process. SERVPRO’s 24x7 emergency service and franchisee across the country enables a quick turnaround time.

Step 2: Inspection and Fire Damage Assessment

SERVPRO technicians will carefully inspect and test adjoining rooms of the property to determine the extent of the fire, smoke, and soot damage. This step is crucial to developing a plan of action. The team will document the extent of damage, a detailed list of the contents, and the recommended restoration processes. It is important to hire a certified, licensed, insured, and reputable team to clean, repair, and rebuild the property.

Step 3: Immediate Board-Up and Roof-Tarp Service

Fire damage can often compromise windows, walls, and roofs. A professional team like SERVPRO can board up the vulnerable areas of the property to maintain security, prevent further structural damage, and protect against further damage from weather, debris, and vandalism. This boarding up and tarping also allows safer access for the insurance assessor to visit and evaluate the fire damage and begin the claim process quickly.

Step 4: Water Removal and Drying (if water damage is present)

Any commercial building would generally have the standard commercial-grade sprinkler system installed. This implies that each sprinkler head would have discharged between 20 and 40 gallons of water each minute from the time it detected fire until a firefighter turned it off. The likelihood is that there are almost 200 gallons of water in the building that need to be removed and the property and its contents need to be dried and dehumidified. The water removal process must begin almost immediately to avoid further damage such as mold and mildew infestation. SERVPRO uses the latest technology and methods to remove the water and dry the property completely.

Step 5: Removal of Smoke and Soot from All Surfaces

The byproduct of any fire event is smoke and soot. The carcinogens present in soot and smoke can cause health effects. SERVPRO professionals can clean the walls, floors, ceilings, and any other parts of the building’s structure using specialized equipment and techniques. Some items affected by smoke and soot can be restored at the specialized facility at SERVPRO.

Step 6: Cleaning and Sanitizing

The technicians at SERVPRO will clean, sanitize, and disinfect all of the restorable items and structures that were damaged by the fire. This ensures that the building is habitable and that everything in the building is clean, structurally sound, and safe. The team will use a variety of cleaning techniques to restore the belongings to pre-fire condition. The deodorization process will be carried out to remove odors using industrial air scrubbers and fogging equipment.

Step 7: Restoration

The final step is the restoration that may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall, painting, and installing new carpet; or it may entail major repairs such as the reconstruction of various areas or rooms in a home or business. With a professional team like SERVPRO, business owners can be assured of a swift and efficient restoration of their property.

SERVPRO: What are the common causes of water damage in hotels?

9/17/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: This SERVPRO blog dives into the usual causes of water damage in hotels that homeowners must watch out for.

Causes of water damage in hotels

A hotel requires constant maintenance and inspection to ensure there are no unpleasant surprises for the guests or the staff. The image and revenue of a hotel are dependent on its aesthetic and functional appeal. A minor leak left unaddressed in a hotel can damage the structure and expensive interiors, ruin guests’ possessions, affect electrical wiring that can become a fire hazard, and entail a massive repair cost that may or may not be covered by insurance. Consequently, all this means unhappy clients and damaged reputation. SERVPRO shares the common causes of water damage in hotels that hotel owners should watch out for.

  1. Floods: Floods are a phenomenon that can’t be controlled or stopped. The only thing hotel owners can do is ensure the safety of their guests, prepare for the forecast floods, and wait to restore their property after the storm has subsided.
  1. PTAC room: A packaged terminal air conditioner offers central air conditioning to the complete area. These systems often become overworked due to the spacious indoor areas that need to remain cool 24x7. This wear and tear can lead to water leaks and eventual water damage to the property. Regular inspection can ensure any initial leak is detected and arrested before matters get out of hand. A delayed correction of the situation could mean expensive repairs later on. Timely services and repairs ensure the cooling system is in prime condition and works effectively.
  1. Faulty appliances: Electrical appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers are often worn out in hotels due to the high number of guests at one point in time. It is crucial to maintain these appliances regularly to ensure there are no water leaks or complete collapse of the equipment. The leak from these appliances can damage floors and walls, not to mention carpets and other expensive items.
  1. Old or burst plumbing pipes: This happens to be the most common cause of water damage in all commercial and residential buildings. And hotels have a massive and widespread plumbing network to ensure a constant supply of water throughout the property and across the day. Often, water leaks from rusty or old pipes in a hidden area like inside a wall, near the toilets, or underneath a sink remain undetected for weeks in the absence of a protocol for inspection. This can lead to extensive damage and disrupt the functioning of the hotel. The management needs to ensure a constant inspection of plumbing to avoid water damage.
  1. Sewage backup: Sewage backup is a category 3 or black water damage. This water is severely contaminated due to its contact with human waste. It poses severe health effects to all inhabitants. The duration of exposure to this water and the porosity of the materials affected determines the damage costs. Some flooring materials and furnishing may be beyond rescue even by professional help especially if there is a delay in restoration activities.
  1. Accidents and pranks: This is another reason hotels suffer from major losses. Even an innocent prank can lead to major damages. A bathtub flooding, for instance, can cause leaks in all the rooms below. The best practice is to ensure that the hotel is impeccably clean and well-maintained to avoid such accidents. Additionally, adequate insurance coverage can be very helpful in cases of severe damage.

SERVPRO: Identify the Usual Fire Hazards in Industrial Buildings and Follow Some Tips to Mitigate the Risk

7/14/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The article by SERVPRO shares in detail how industrial fires are caused and how business owners can prevent these catastrophes by following certain tips.

Common industrial fire hazards and tips to prevent industrial fires

Industrial facilities have numerous heat sources and flammable materials that heighten the risk of fire by leaps and bounds. SERVPRO investigates the usual suspects of fire in industrial complexes and general precautions to prevent fire damage.

  • Electrical Fire Hazards

The majority of the fires every year in industrial buildings are attributed to worn-out, defective wiring or overloaded circuits. Business owners must watch out for the following signs:

  • Worn extension cords

  • Exposed wiring

  • Broken power tools

  • Overloaded outlets

  • Static discharge

  • Greasy or dusty electric motors or machines

The key to the prevention of these disastrous fires lies in training the personnel, maintenance of electrical components, and following best practices. Some of the precautions are:

  • Don’t overload electrical equipment or circuits.

  • Unplug equipment when not in use.

  • Avoid using extension cords, and consider them temporary solutions.

  • Use antistatic equipment where required by NFPA or OSHA.

  • Implement a feasible and “no-consequence” reporting system to encourage electrical fire risk reports.

  • Flammable Liquids

Certain substances commonly used in industrial settings can ignite with the slightest spark, or even by static electricity. Industrial fires are often the result of explosions of flammable materials, such as rocket fuel, acrylic acid, and crude oil.

Here a few preventive tips that workers must follow:

  • Store solvents, paint, paint thinner, gasoline, and any other flammable liquid in OSHA-approved containers in a well-ventilated area, far from heat sources.

  • Ground containers must safely discharge static electricity.

  • Spills must be cleaned up immediately.

  • Spray painting must be limited to special fireproof booths.

  • Be aware of the safety information for every liquid on the premises. Refer to the material safety data sheet (MSDS) that accompanies such products.

  • Unless heating flammable materials for work, all ignition sources must be kept as far away as possible.

  • Personal protective equipment must be available, especially when liquids and gases are involved.

  • Compressed Gases

Since compressed flammable gases can ignite at below room temperature, even a small leak can cause a fire. The following tips are helpful when dealing with compressed gas:

  • Inspect cylinders of compressed gas regularly for leaks.

  • Store cylinders in temperatures below 50 degrees Celsius.

  • Turn off the ignition source before extinguishing a flame from a flammable gas.

  • Hot Work

Hot work usually refers to welding and torch cutting, but it may also include brazing, burning, heating, and soldering. Sparks and molten material can reach temperatures greater than 1000°F and easily travel more than 35 feet - thereby becoming a huge fire hazard.

The following protocol must be followed to mitigate the fire risk:

  • Wear fire-resistant protective clothing.

  • Follow orders on the hot work permit.

  • Weld only in areas with fire-resistant flooring or use protective shields.

  • Use containers of water or sand to catch slag.

  • Hang fireproof curtains on open doors or windows for protection.

  • Create and follow a written permit system for all hot work projects, even when permits aren’t required.

  • Assign a safety professional to supervise the work, especially when using outside contractors

  • Clear the area of flammable or combustible materials including dust, liquids, and gases.

  • Train personnel on the hazards associated with hot work, any site-specific hazards, the proper policies and procedures, and the use of safety equipment.

  • Housekeeping Practices

A clean work area is a safe work area. Poor housekeeping practices can become a cause of fires and following the below mentioned practices can mitigate this risk:

  • Sweep up dust, lint, sawdust, and scraps.

  • Dispose of combustible waste in covered, airtight containers.

  • Unclutter the areas around machinery, stoves, heaters, and other equipment and remove all trash and cartons.

  • Use non-flammable cleaners.

  • Keep incompatible or inflammable substances away from each other.

  • Keep the sprinklers and exits free and unblocked at all times.

  • Combustible dust

Combustible dust is any fine material that can catch fire and explode when mixed with air. Everything, including food, dyes, chemicals, and metals has the potential to be combustible in dust form. A highly deadly yet overlooked fire hazard, combustible dust is a major cause of fire in almost every industry.

The best way to mitigate this fire hazard is by following good housekeeping practices and preventing the accumulation of dust to a level that may be considered a fire hazard.

  • Equipment and machinery

Heating and hot work equipment, especially poorly installed, operated, and maintained furnaces can become fire hazards. Additionally, the friction between the moving parts of mechanical equipment also poses a fire risk.

Business owners can prevent these fire hazards by following these tips:

  • Follow cleaning and maintenance procedures for each piece of equipment, including lubrication.

  • Create awareness among workers.

  • Run an efficient cleaning and housekeeping system.

  • Maintain the equipment regularly to avoid this fire hazard.

SERVPRO shares the six usual suspects of water leakage in commercial spaces

6/13/2021 (Permalink)

Blog summary: The SERVPRO article talks in detail about the causes of water leakage in commercial buildings that can lead to serious water damage if not checked in time.

Common causes of water leakage in commercial properties

Commercial buildings tend to use larger amounts of water than residential buildings owing to the sheer volume of people who visit the premises. Water costs in general are already high in commercial spaces but can become painfully exorbitant if there are unaddressed water leaks.

Awareness of the common causes of water leaks is the first step towards preventing them. SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant County, a commercial water damage restoration company, shares the usual suspects of water leakage in commercial buildings:

  1. Roof leaks

Roof leaks pose a grave structural damage risk and can lead to major water leaks that may prove expensive, if not addressed on time.

  1. A nonfunctional drainage system: One square foot of water on the roof is equivalent to five pounds per inch of water. If the drainage system fails, property owners should seek commercial roof repairs to reroute the standing water.
  2. Damaged flashing: Flashing undergoes continual expansions and contractions as the temperatures fluctuate, leading to potential tears in the flashing as the roof disintegrates.
  3. Deteriorating roofing membranes: Roofing membrane acts as a seal that protects the interiors from outside water. As the roof ages, roofing membranes can split, blister, crack or shrink.
  4. Damaged shingles: Shingles can get damaged or blown away in strong storms, allowing water to enter the building.
  5. Ice dams: These are ridges of ice at the roof edges that may form and prevent melting snow from draining off. This blocked water may eventually find its way into the building
  6. Gas lines, HVAC units, vents, drains, and pipes: These often run across rooftops, requiring proper securing to prevent leaks inside the commercial property.

Rain collars, flashing, pipe boots, and field wraps are effective mechanisms to avoid leaks.

  1. Plumbing leaks

Water pipes are often found inside the walls of commercial constructions while other plumbing pipes are located underground.

  1. Burst pipe: A pipe that is cracked or corroded will eventually burst and lead to extensive water damage.
  2. Appliance hose rupture: Hoses on appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, and air conditioning units may get ruptured due to corrosion or general wear and tear as they age.
  3. Sprinkler activated: Fire-suppression sprinklers may get activated after a fire has been doused causing water damage.
  4. Frozen pipes: During freezing temperatures, pipes can also leak due to frozen water passage. A 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can release up to 250 gallons of water a day.

Timely maintenance of the plumbing system can prevent these mishaps from occurring.

  1. Basement leaks

Minor foundation leaks can explode into a massive, sudden water issue in the guise of floods and structural damage. The reasons could be:

  1. Poor waterproofing systems
  2. Inferior concrete quality
  3. Defects or damage to the waterproofing membrane
  4. Insufficient slope

These waterproofing failures allow seepage from clogged drainage, broken pipes, groundwater level rise, and even water features of the above-ground landscaping.

The structural integrity of the basement will be seriously threatened by the high moisture level, as the chloride content of the concrete will cause severe corrosion problems.

  1. Plumbing fixture leaks

Plumbing fixtures in commercial buildings, such as toilets and sinks, are extensively used and are, therefore, more likely to spring a leak.

  1. Leaking faucets are usually the result of a worn or damaged component. If the rubber washers that create a watertight seal in the faucet, for instance, wear out, the seal will fail and the faucet will leak.
  2. Toilets in commercial buildings (especially ones with public restrooms) wear quickly, allowing water leaks to occur. Common causes of toilet leaks:
  • A flapper that doesn’t create a solid seal will allow water to leak from the toilet tank drain
  • A fill valve that doesn’t shut off when the toilet tank is refilled will continue to send water into the tank.

These common problem areas can be addressed by repairing on time to avoid even costlier repairs and replacement.

  1. Clogged drains

Commercial kitchens and toilets struggle with improper items being rinsed down the drainage system. This results in massive amounts of waste and other debris being flushed down the drains, which often clog the systems and slow the drainage.

This eventually backs up and leads to leakages, which may warrant a professional water damage restoration.

  1. Ceiling leaks

Failure of waterproofing membranes in bathrooms and other wet areas of high-rise buildings can lead to dampness and seepage. Damp patches appear on the ceiling on the lower floor and the dripping water can lead to mold growth and structural damage.

Keeping an eye out for these tell-tale signs can prevent a lot of unnecessary damage.

Leak detection systems

The best bet against water leaks is a commercial water leak detection system, passive or active. The common systems used by commercial buildings are:

  • Wireless water leak detectors – The building is retrofitted with wireless sensors that spark a local alarm and deliver notifications by phone, text, and email to the building managers in case of a leak.
  • Cloud-based sensors – Cloud-based sensors are placed at sites of potential leaks – sinks, toilets, basements, and plumbing chases. These collect data from all units into a single portal to be monitored by the building operators.
  • Automated sensors – These advanced water leak sensors automatically shut off the water supply in certain applications in the event of a leak.

In case of water damage, commercial businesses must contact commercial cleaning service companies such as SERVPRO of Grapevine / NE Tarrant County for swift and efficient water damage restoration.

Four Steps to Take While Waiting for Commercial Restoration Services to Arrive After Water Damage to Residential Or Commercial Property

4/23/2021 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: SERVPRO offers four essential steps immediately after discovering commercial water damage in Keller, TX. While waiting for the arrival of commercial restoration services, follow this advice for containing the damage, filing the insurance claim, and contacting a professional cleanup service.

Commercial restoration services become necessary for many reasons, and one common occurrence is water damage. A professional building restoration service mitigates floods caused by a storm surge or excessive rain, appliance leaks, burst or leaking pipes, and roof leaks. Business owners need to know what to do in these scenarios, especially while waiting for the commercial restoration services team to arrive.

4 Steps to Take Immediately Following Water Damage to Commercial Property

Many events could result in serious water damage, but all of them require a prompt commercial cleaning service to set the property right again.

#1 Switch Off the Water Mains

When a property owner discovers water damage, Step One is always to find the source. If the problem is still active, such as a burst pipe or leak, shut down the water source. The company may need to call a professional plumber to control the water or close the water main before continuing.

Water leakage can happen anywhere in a commercial or residential building for various reasons. If the source is not apparent, a professional service may need to help with a diagnostic search through the area.

#2 Confirm the Water Source

If a leaking or a burst pipe is the issue, closing the water source will prevent further issues. If not, Step Two is finding other possible sources of the water damage. Important checks include walls and the roof, where pipes pass through, and various openings could present challenges.

Enlisting a water damage cleanup and restoration professional is crucial when a commercial building has suffered water damage. It can be dangerous with floors weakened by standing or running water, and collapse could result in possible injuries. There are also risks with fiberglass insulation, asbestos, and mold spores.

#3 Call the Insurance Company

Step Three is for the business owner to notify their insurance company about water damage and start a claim. Some commercial property policies may not cover water damage, so it is crucial to ask for details about the building’s policy coverage. Documenting the damage with photographs is also essential.

#4 Contact A Water Damage Restoration Expert like SERVPRO

Step Four is to find reputable commercial restoration services in the area, like SERVPRO. Sufficient expertise in water removal and water cleanup is essential.

Commercial water restoration companies like SERVPRO have years of experience to cover cleanup, water removal, drying out processes, and tear-out aspects of commercial restoration services in Keller, Texas. They safely complete dry out and removal tasks, minimizing damage and the risk of exposure. The commercial restoration service also offers emergency service and mold remediation as one of the industry’s most reliable fire restoration companies.

Commercial Property Water Removal

4/5/2021 (Permalink)

Water is the single most long-term destructive substance in the indoor environment. Water may dissolve or weaken building materials, damage floors and ceilings, and cause microbial growth if water damage restoration is not implemented quickly and professionally.

When water from a leak, flood, storm, or activated fire sprinklers is present at your place of business, step one is to remove the water immediately. The faster the water is extracted the less damage to the building structure and contents. In many situations, simply removing most of the water is not enough. Water trapped in carpet pad, under the flooring and behind the walls can cause permanent damage if not properly dried out in a timely manner.

Once the majority of water is removed, dehumidifiers and air movers will be placed by technicians in necessary areas of the building to finish the dry out process. Combining water removal, with dehumidification and air circulation aids in the prevention of microbial growth from expanding and growing.

A SERVPRO manager will walk the property with the owner or manager and adjuster explaining the water damage restoration process and answering any questions they may have about removal of property, items and demo.

At SERVPRO of Grapevine and N.E. Tarrant County we are here for your water and fire needs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Call us at 817-595-2506

How Commercial Cleaning Services Benefit Your Business:

To operate at peak productivity, businesses need to provide a clean environment for their team and clientele. Why an ERP is Absolutely Necessary for Your Business

10/1/2020 (Permalink)

An ERP, or Emergency Ready Plan, is a method of planning for emergencies before they even occur. Why should your business have an ERP? Your emergency strategy will be carefully devised to guide you and your employees when taking the decisive action necessary during a disaster of any size. The SERVPRO Ready Plan information will give you the security of emergency preparedness, and your plan information can be downloaded into our Ready Plan app to instantly share with SERVPRO so that the damage can be intercepted right away.

Here are some things to consider while putting your ERP into place:

Planning Ahead

  • Talk with your employees to formulate as many disaster scenarios as they can come up with. The most recent hurricanes that have hit Texas have created numerous learning opportunities for preparedness. Studying such tragedies can help you more effectively project other possible disasters to better plan for them.

Protecting Everyone

  • It is necessary to create an ERP that protects anyone in the building. The Department of Homeland Security refers to this as “Protective Actions for Life Safety,” and includes:
    • Fire Drills. Rehearsals for action during a fire.
    • Sheltering. Sheltering staff during a natural disaster.
    • Sheltering in Place. Sheltering staff during a man-made emergency.
    • Lockdown. Eluding an active shooter.

Incident Stabilization

  • Stabilizing an incident means preventing further damage on the scene. This can be accomplished by training your employees in various rescue procedures including:
    • First Aid and CPR
    • Proper Use of Fire Extinguishers

Evacuation Team

  • Without guidance during an evacuation, people will often panic. Consider adding an evacuation team to your ERP:
    • Assign point persons to guide evacuees out of the building.
    • Appoint helpers to assist persons with disabilities.
    • If an exit is blocked by a hazard such as a collapsed ceiling, make sure the evacuation team is trained to redirect employees to an alternate exit.

SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County is a reliable, professional provider of emergency cleaning and restoration services when you experience fire and water damage. SERVPRO can expertly help you devise an effective Emergency Readiness Plan for your business here in the Grapevine area.

HVAC Maintenance For Your North Texas Apartment Complex

9/24/2020 (Permalink)

Engaging a professional HVAC company to do maintenance on your apartment complex HVAC systems at regular intervals throughout the year will ensure that all the heating and cooling units on your property are running as efficiently as possible. Inspection and cleaning of the wiring and mechanisms of all your HVAC units will be completed during a professional service call, and a professional will have the specialized training and experience necessary to do this type of job correctly. The comfort of all interiors and the energy efficiency of the buildings themselves are important to you as the owner, and your tenants, too.

It’s important to ensure that the upkeep that is necessary to prolong the life and efficiency of all the HVAC units in your apartment complex gets done, and done right, and some tasks you can actually complete yourself monthly and seasonally in between your scheduled maintenance call from your professional. These tasks can be:

  • Make sure to use high-efficiency, pleated filters when you are replacing them. Filters of this type contain an electrostatic charge that works like a magnet to attract particles, such as dust or those that carry bacteria. Air filters need to be replaced in every unit, every 90 days
  • Ensure that your landscaping company doesn’t allow grass to shower on top of any exterior units on the grounds while they are cutting your lawn areas so that you can be sure that your HVAC units stay free of grass clippings as well as leaves and pollen
  • Keep at least two feet of space clear around all outdoor heating and cooling units
  • Inspect refrigerant lines monthly
  • In Summer, turn off the water to the furnace humidifier
  • Replace the humidifier filter and turn on the water ahead of the Fall season
  • Replace your carbon monoxide detector batteries regularly
  • Ensure outdoor AC units are on level, firm, and dry ground
  • Clean AC condensate drains with bleach/water mixture on a routine basis

Your professional maintenance company can check all your apartment complex ductwork periodically, too, and this will ensure that everything is sealed properly and ready for your scheduled tune-ups on your apartment complex HVAC systems.

Here at SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County, we make sure we maintain all the training and skill sets that are required for taking care of your HVAC system, and we also handle cleanup projects both large and small. We handle fire damage, water damage, and mold remediation, and we can get your home or business Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned!

What's an ERP?

2/5/2020 (Permalink)

Sure, you could tell us where the breaker box is in your office, just incase Debbie from accounting trips a breaker by microwaving her left over salmon and Brussel sprouts (ew, thanks Debbie) but do you know where your water shut off is? In the event of a water emergency, like a burst pipe or a toilet supply line break, it’s important to know where it is. That’s where we can help you out. We can make you an ERP, or an Emergency Read Profile, that gives you – and us – a detailed run down of your building and shows you just where your shut off is, and other important things like a fire extinguisher. It can also help our production managers and technicians put together a game plan just incase your business happens to flood or get water damaged. Along with identifying important facts like water shut offs, we will also detail out the floor plans of your building, what to do in any type of emergency and more!

To set up an appointment with one of our Business Development Managers to do a walkthrough of your building for an ERP, give us a call today at 817.595.2506!

Spring Clean Your Space!

1/20/2020 (Permalink)

Spring is just around the corner – and it seems to be coming sooner rather than later, with temperatures reaching into the 60s by late next week (I definitely plan on giving my car a good deep clean this weekend). It might be a good idea to bring some freshness to your office and do a quick spring cling! Not only will it make you feel better, about not having a cluttered workspace, but you’ll be more productive too!

First, split everything into categories, that’ll help make tackling the task of your once-a-year (let’s be real) declutter easier.

  1. Personal stuff: Keep your decorative items down to just three to five items at your desk. Small decorations, framed pictures of your dog, or even a plant are all great ways to personalize your space, and it’s definitely okay to do that. Just try not to go overboard with your stuff. If you have lotions, hand sanitizer, or lip balms be sure to keep them in a top shelf.
  2. Papers: Lots of papers on your desk? Look through it, and If you for sure don’t need them, toss them. If you’re not sure be sure to file them away in the correct spot. Shred papers before you toss them, though.
  3. Clothing: You don’t need your whole closet at your desk. Keep a sweater or sweatshirt on the back of your chair and your gym bags in a bag under your desk or in the trunk of your car.
  4. Supplies: What do you use during your day at work? A planner? Pen? Pad of paper? Maybe some sticky notes? Anything you use on a daily basis can stay on your desk, anything else put in a drawer.
  5. Food: Alright, lets be real, you’re not going to eat the bag of veggie straws you purchased last year. Throw those out and throw out the 74 packets of ketchup you’ve got in your desk too. Throw away your water bottles, wash your dirty coffee mugs, too.

Now that you’ve got that taken care of, give your space a nice deep clean! Wipe down all the surfaces with a disinfectant wipe, use canned air to get all the crumbs from your keyboard, and wipe down your computer screen to get all those annoying finger prints that Janice from accounting keeps leaving when she points at something on your screen. Enjoy your new, freshly organized space!

Be ERP Ready!

10/28/2019 (Permalink)

Last week was a busy week for us when it came to commercial properties flooding due to the storms that hit the metroplex on Sunday the 20th, and this week will likely be just as busy! We’ve got an 80% chance of rain on Tuesday, and then a 90% chance of rain on Thursday! Of course, the question still stands: is your commercial space prepared for a weather disaster? What about a burst pipe?

If the answer is no, then you definitely need to consider setting up an appointment for an ERP, or Emergency Response Program, with us. ERPs are really cool, and I’m just not saying that – I promise! ERPs can prepare your business for whatever may happen, whether it’s a burst pipe or a roof leak. We will identify where things are like your emergency shut off valves, and do a complete 360 inspection of your office, we’ll identify the year your building was built, among other things to make sure that you’re prepared. If something happens, give us a call, and we’ll be able to pull that ERP to make the drying process go even faster than normal! Which will save you time and it’ll save you money.

So, give us a call at 817.595.2506 to start your ERP today!

Commercial Storm Damage

10/21/2019 (Permalink)

That was some serious weather we had last night! Tornadoes tracked miles worth of damage in Dallas, and we had some serious quarter sized hailstorms. While we didn’t get the brunt of it out here in Fort Worth, it does make you think about your commercial business. Is it prepared for the threat of severe weather like we saw last night? What about any other disaster?

That’s where SERVPRO and our ERP or Emergency Ready Program comes into play. We put together a detailed plan for your commercial business whether it’s an apartment complex, retail space, or an office park. We detail just what you need to do in the event of a disaster and come up with a comprehensive plan of attack to make sure your business is up and running as soon as possible.

If you’re interested in an ERP give us a call today and we will be more than happy to schedule an appointment with our business development manager today!

Is Your Commercial Business Prepared For Disaster?

10/21/2019 (Permalink)

Those who run their own businesses have a TON on their plate. They’ve got pay roll to worry about, making deadlines, making quarterly numbers – the list goes on. The last thing they need on their plate is a disaster to happen, most times, businesses are woefully underprepared for a disaster to their commercial businesses. Do you have a contingency plan just in case a pipe bursts or a roof caves in due to a thunderstorm?

If not, you may want to consider our Emergency Ready Program, or ERP. With an ERP we can identify problem areas, where your water shut off is, and even create a game plan for our team just incase you happen to have a water or fire damage in the future. An ERP can save your company time and money, so give us a call today to schedule one at 817.595.2506!

Water Damage Checklist

2/5/2019 (Permalink)

Water damage is one of the more devastating things that can happen to your business, short of a fire. Water losses can often close your office which in turn can mean lost revenue and productivity time.

Unfortunately, while there’s not much you can do about storm related water damage, it’s easy to curb any unexpected damage to your business by doing regular inspections of your commercial space. Below are some places to check for water damage on a routine basis.

  1. Roofing

Rain seeping in through damaged roofs can go unseen and often cause water damage that goes left unnoticed for months and in turn causes mold growth that can cause health problems to you and your staff. Have a roof routinely inspected by a professional to prevent leaks, especially before our rainy spring season.

  1. Pipes

Your pipes can cause a ton of headaches. If you’ve got a burst pipe it can cause hundreds to thousands of gallons of water to flood your office space. If you have a slow leak, it could cause mold. It’s a good idea to have a plumber come out and inspect your pipes.

  1. Sprinkler System

Did you know that your sprinkler system can leak? It can! We’ve had a few jobs where a sprinkler had made a lot of damage in commercial buildings. Do regular checks to make sure your system isn’t faulty or broken. It can also save lives during a fire.

If you’ve had any water damage to a commercial property, give SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County a call today at 817.595.2506!

Are You Ready For A Disaster?

2/4/2019 (Permalink)

When I worked back in retail, we had an employee only bathroom. However, we all know that with young children if they tell you they need to go now, they need to go now. We usually let small kids use our bathroom if they had a guardian or parent accompany them. One of my coworkers, a sweet older lady who didn’t have a bad bone in her body, bless her heart, let a child go back without a parent. What ensued next has been dubbed the diaper incident by those of us who were there to witness it. The poor thing, it seemed, had an accident on his way to the bathroom and was too embarrassed to tell anyone about it. So, he did his business (number 2) and tried to flush the diaper he was wearing.

Now, if you know anything about diapers and indoor plumbing, you should know they never should be combined. The combination in our pipes lead to a burst pipe, poop ‘splosion catastrophe. And it was a day or two before our plumber could get there. We didn’t know where the water shut off was, and it would have been really nice to know that information.

If you were to have a diaper incident in your place of business, whether it’s an office, retail or warehouse, do you know where your water shut off is? What about your employees? If you’re out of town, do they know where it is? That’s where we here at SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County comes in! We have a special program called an Emergency Ready Profile, or ERP. We can make a plan of action for any event and any situation whether it’s water, fire, or storm damage. The ERP will help you minimize the damage to your commercial space and give us important information in the case of an emergency. The catch? There is none! This is a completely free service to anyone and everyone!

To get started on an ERP give us a call today to schedule an appointment with one of our Business Development Representatives at 817.595.2506!

Grapevine Church Floods!

1/21/2019 (Permalink)

This Grapevine church experienced flooding when there was a leak coming from the baptism room and going out into the sanctuary completely saturating the sanctuary in standing water. When we arrived on scene, we extracted all the water and placed the air movers we had for emergency services. We then returned the following day with even more air movers (close to 50!). We also placed dehumidifiers to the area. We returned each day to the church to make sure that everything was drying according to plan and  fortunately, we were able to get the church back to normal and ready for worship in no time at all!

Has your church or other commercial building suffered from water damage? If so, give Grapevine/NE Tarrant County a call today at 817.595.2506

Office Supply Store - Grapevine TX

10/22/2018 (Permalink)

Our technician - Dominic - is here working hard on extracting water from this Office Supply Store!

The rain in Texas has been non-stop for a while, and buildings are not able to handle the amount of water we have been getting. This office supply store has water coming in from multiple areas; it is even soaking up through the floor! Due to the puddles, some areas of the store even needed to be closed off so that customers wouldn’t slip. Our team got on site quickly and worked to control the water while the store called in a plumber and a foundation expert to address the issues causing the leaks. We know how important it is for your store to be able to operate normally, so we immediately got to work extracting water and setting up air movers to keep the space dry. If your commercial space suffers from water damage, call us right away at 817-595-2506.

Dog Groomer - Grapevine, Texas

Before and After of the area!

When disaster strikes, our team is always ready to go. This set of businesses was flooded when a pipe burst in one of them. Since the owners of the business were out of town, nobody noticed the broken pipe. Water flowed all over the floor and even seeped under the walls to affect multiple buildings. There was standing water in 6 suites! SERVPRO® of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County knows how important it is to get your business back to normal as quickly as possible, so we called in a huge crew and got to work right away. We needed a total of 236 air movers, 13 dehumidifiers, 2 power distribution boxes, and 1 generator to make sure every inch of the buildings got dried out!

There is no job too big for us, so if you have a large loss in your business call us today at 817-595-2506.

We Are A Large Loss Response Team!

10/19/2018 (Permalink)

We bet you didn’t know that we are a Large Loss Response Team, so what does that mean exactly? It means that it doesn’t matter the size of the loss we are always ready to handle it. It’s a big deal to be a Large Loss Response team because it means that SERVPRO Corporate holds our teams to a higher level of standard than most. We have more equipment, higher certifications, and more experience with a greater eye for detail than your standard commercial loss response team. With these things we are able to handle bigger storm losses. For example, we had the opportunity to travel to Houston to help restore and clean up after Hurricane Harvey last year. We know how devastating a storm can be, and we approach every job with the same care and compassion whether it’s a small house or a 20,000 square foot warehouse.

If you’ve recently been affected by the recent rains, we can help. Give SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County a call 817.595.2506 and know that we are always “Here to Help.”

Preparing Your Commercial Building for Winter

10/19/2018 (Permalink)

Winter is coming! And no, we don’t mean the white walkers. It’s not even November yet and the Rockies (including Denver) and parts of Texas have already seen snow, and that could be some foresight into the coming winter months. The Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a teeth-shatteringly cold winter, and El Nino is coming with forecasters already predicting snow for North Texas.

So, with that in mind, it’s important to prep your commercial building for the coming winter this fall.

  • Inspect the roof for damage.

If you haven’t yet, inspect your roof for damage from the spring and summer months. Although we had a fairly quiet spring and summer when it came to hail and tornadoes we still did have some strong storms with strong winds. If you haven’t detected any water damage from the recent rains, it’s still a good idea to go ahead and make sure there aren’t any unseen holes were water could have gotten in with you unaware.

  • Check your Gutters

Check your gutters for any blockages from leaves that have fallen during the fall months. Clean them out to make sure that nothing can overflow and potentially damage your building.

  • Inspect your insulation.

Inspect the insulation of your building, and make sure there is nothing missing, damaged, or has unexpected water and mold damage. Replace and damaged or missing insulation and call SERVPRO of Grapevine/NE Tarrant County to help you deal with any mold.

  • Inspect your pipes.

Inspect your pipes in the early fall before the first freezes, a burst pipe could be devastating for your business. If you do have a burst pipe, give us a call!

If you do have water damage issues this winter, give us at 817.595.2506! We are always here to help!

Commercial Property Water Loss and Extraction

Commercial Water cleanup in Grapevine, Texas.

Commercial Property Water Loss and Extraction

Water is the single most long-term destructive substance in the indoor environment. It can dissolve or weaken building materials, damage floors and ceilings, and can also cause microbial growth if you don’t fix water damage quickly and professionally.

The faster the water is extracted the less damage to the building structure and contents.

The first thing to do if you are dealing with water damage at your place of business is to remove the water immediately. The faster the water is extracted the less damage to the building structure and contents. In situations, this is not enough. Standing water from carpet, flooring and walls can cause permanent damage if not taken care of in a timely manner

Extracting water in commercial buildings or properties, is a very important part of any large water loss. Fire sprinklers, used to stop fire from spreading, can leave you with wet and soggy office spaces.

Water extraction is used to assist in the prevention of microbial growth from expanding and growing. Extraction of water is also needed to keep floors from buckling. The dehumidifiers and air movers will be placed by the technicians in the necessary areas of the building.

A SERVPRO manager will walk the property with the owner/manager and adjuster explaining the process and to answer any questions they may have about removal of property, items and demo.

At SERVPRO of Grapevine and N.E. Tarrant County we are here for your water and fire needs 24 hours day seven days a week. Call us at 817-595-2506
